Cloud Engineer

The Job

This is a full team, permanent  role based in Aylesford, Kent, working 37 hours per week.

Salary: circa £37,000 per annum


Overview of the Role & Team:

This position is key in our Business Systems department, with the main function being day to day maintenance of the RBLI cloud infrastructure, to recommend improvement projects and support their implementation. The team is responsible for providing 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support for network and IT services, implementing IT projects and data engineering service. The team is overseen by the Assistant Director of Risk and Compliance, who holds overall responsibility for the performance.  The team itself is small and close-knit, with a diverse group of people.  You will be a team player but also happy to work alone when required.


Main Purpose of the Role:

To design, implement, and manage cloud-based systems for RBLI using Azure and Office 365. Taking responsibility for setup, security, training, and administration where needed for these systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To conceptualize, design and deliver solutions as per defined scope and standards. Review the architecture and design deliverables and support as a System Management Expert (SME).
  • Ensure knowledge is up to date on new technologies so that the network and cloud infrastructure is current and meets quality standards and business requirements.
  • Gather specifications and deliver solutions to RBLI based on needs of the business.
  • Train and develop the team to ensure that there is adequate cover across the rest of the team and delivery risks are mitigated.
  • Effectively present public (e.g. Azure) and hybrid cloud-based (current infrastructure) architectural design concepts and solutions to all levels in the organization.
  • Drive decision making. Identify alternatives, pros, and cons, and make recommendations.
  • Anticipate when architectural change will be needed and prepare the organization for a successful transition.
  • Build public and hybrid cloud-based optimized reference applications, elastically scalable, fault tolerance and other cloud architecture patterns.
  • Responsible for delivering appropriate security controls.
  • Pick up 3rd Line Support Calls when Senior IT Support Engineer is not available or during busy times.


Working Environment:

This role will be office based at RBLI Head office Aylesford, occasionally visiting other RBLI locations.

Required Skills & Experience for the Role:


  • 1-2 years’ experience in working in the implementation of Cloud based networks
  • Knowledge of relevant cloud technologies, technical systems & tooling.
  • Administering, managing and troubleshooting SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive along with Exchange Online.
  • Experience with VM Configuration and Deployment
  • VPN technologies



  • Familiar with Microsoft Azure Cloud
  • Intune Laptop deployment Experience
  • Physical network management
  • Full Driving Licence held
  • ITIL or similar service delivery framework

This job role requires a completed DBS check before the candidate starts. The level of check required for this role is BASIC
