Communications Executive

The Job

The role is for a full time, permanent contract based in Aylesford, Kent working 37 hours per week.  

Salary: circa £22,000 per annum


Main purpose of job:

The Communications Executive will play a central role in the creation of content, ensuring the charity can tell the stories of its success, promote its objectives and help it achieve its strategic aims.


In joining our busy and successful marketing and fundraising team, this individual will have a versatile and person-centric approach to content creation, working as part of a varied organisation with a wide variety of objectives.


This role will directly support the design, development and execution of internal communications campaigns as well as PR and broader marketing and fundraising activities.


Your Key Responsibilities:

  • With the support of the PR & Public Affairs Manager, develop and execute an internal communications and staff engagement plan
  • Research, source, write and edit content to support internal and external public relations, marketing and fundraising activities
  • Manage the organisation’s internal and external publications, including a bi-annual glossy magazine and monthly internal newsletter
  • Develop and update a full catalogue of beneficiary case studies
  • Ensure that any content produced is aligned with the organisation’s brand guidelines, tone of voice, aims and objectives
  • Be on hand to provide additional support to the wider marketing and fundraising team’s activities


Working Environment:

Office based, some travel maybe required

The Requirements

Personal Attributes:

  • A pro-active self-starter who can comfortably liaise with a diverse range of internal, external stakeholders and beneficiaries
  • An individual with a keen news sense who knows how to develop content with a public appeal and which conveys a wide variety of messages succinctly
  • A personable and adaptable approach to content creation, where the welfare of beneficiaries is always at the forefront of mind
  • The ability to work under pressure with an attention to detail which ensures a ‘second-to-none’ quality
  • Have the ability to sieve through detail to find the story which deserves to be told


Skills & Experience Required:


  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a communications role, having produced content for print and digital publications, internal communications, traditional media engagement, or broader marketing activities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes
  • Experience in producing content for publications, such as newsletters, for internal and external use
  • Demonstrates a strategic approach to content creation with the charity’s objectives always at the forefront of mind
  • Demonstrates an ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK



  • A journalism, copywriting or marketing qualification
  • Experience working in areas relevant to the organisation, including the care, social enterprise, or third sector
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, in particular InDesign
  • Experience in producing content for, and engaging with, print, broadcast and online media outlets
  • Fundamental photography/videography skills
