WHO YOU’RE SUPPORTING
Tirtha is one of six former soldiers who served with the Brigade of Gurkhas who works in RBLI’s factory. Tirtha joined the British Army in 2005, and in his seven-year service undertook two tours of Afghanistan. On his second tour, in 2010, clearing improvised explosive devices he was caught in a blast and severely injured, losing his left leg above the knee.
In 2012 RBLI gave him what he calls his second chance. He has since established himself as leader of the signage team in the factory and has been able to move with his wife and two children to a new home outside the village in nearby Maidstone. ‘Being here,’ he says, ‘is like a family.’
