700 take part in Britain's Bravest Military Challenge

Almost 700 fitness fans took to parks around the UK this weekend to take part Britain’s Bravest Military Challenge an event run by Be Military Fit with Bear Grylls (BMF) which has crucial raised funds for Royal British Legion Industries.

The event saw participants put to the ultimate military fitness test. BMF worked with military leaders to create the most authentic experience possible, featuring the toughest, military training drills and the highest level of physical and mental challenge.

The event took place at 18 events throughout the UK with almost 700 people taking part.

The 18 BMF groups who meet regularly in local parks, are run by ex-service men and women who have a deep understanding of veteran welfare needs and the issues of transition. The experienced BMF trainers ran the special 60 minute challenges in local parks across the UK from Bristol to Falkirk, so that anyone could take part and get involved, including people with injuries and disabilities The fundraising total is still being counted.

Steve Sherry CMG OBE, Chief Executive of RBLI, said: We are immensely grateful to have received such tremendous support from all the participants of the Britain’s Bravest Military Challenge in this incredibly important year for our RBLI.

Every penny raised by the ride will go directly to helping the former military personnel and people with disabilities we support through our range of services.

RBLI is currently fundraising for a £22 million development which will provide crucial support for hundreds of veterans, every year, for the next 100 years.

When complete, the Centenary Village development will provide 22 apartments, each designed to be fully accessible and house single veterans in urgent need, alongside 16 new family homes and 24-assisted living apartments. At the heart of the development will be a community centre with fully-accessible gym.
