Care home staff commit to three days of camping for The Great Tommy Sleep Out

Staff at a West Yorkshire care home are setting up tents as they prepare to join RBLI’s The Great Tommy Sleep Out in March.

Chloe Yates, Karen Sinclaire, Owen Yates, Kyle Green, Nathan Williams and James Pickering, who all help to run Earls Lodge in Wakefield, will be spending up to three nights in the property grounds while backing the national effort to raise awareness about veteran homelessness.

Their stint, between Friday 14 and Sunday 16 March, will see several families of care home residents joining in for a night too. The fundraiser will end in style with a visit from the Mayor of Wakefield on the following Monday.

The Great Tommy Sleep Out is an annual fundraising initiative. Each March, individuals, groups and communities from all corners of the UK brave the elements and sleep outdoors for one night or more to raise funds for RBLI’s essential work in supporting homeless veterans.

Chloe Yates, Deputy Manager for Earls Lodge care home, said: “It’s a cause we believe in deeply and a subject we want to make more people think about. We’re having great support from our residents, families and friends, and we’ll be marking the occasion with a Victory Tommy Tea.”

In addition, Earls Lodge has recently become part of the Veteran Friendly Framework, which supports care providers in identifying and meeting the wellbeing needs of veterans and their partners.
