Morrisons and RBLI join forces to support unemployed veterans in Exeter

Royal British Legion Industries have joined forces with the Morrisons Foundation to support unemployed veterans in Exeter into meaningful work.

Recent census data revealed that one in every 28 people over the age of 16 in Exeter is a military veteran. While the South West has the highest proportion of veterans out of any region in England.

RBLI’s Lifeworks programme provides out-of-work veterans with CV building, modern job searching methods and interview techniques. LifeWorks has supported more than 6,000 veterans and their families throughout the UK since 2011 and sees 83% of participants move into work within a year.

Now, as the cost-of-living crisis looms, the leading military charity has partnered with the Morrisons Foundation to deliver the Lifeworks programme in Exeter for the first time. The first course saw an enthusiastic group of veterans from all three services undertake the programme at the Morrisons store in Exeter.

Steve Parrott, Head of RBLI’s Lifeworks programme, said: “As the cost-of-living crisis bites harder over the coming Winter months, unemployed military veterans will sadly be amongst the hardest hit in society.

“Veterans are often tackling compounding problems including life-changing physical and mental disability, financial difficulty, family breakdown long-term unemployment.

“It’s vital that there is support out there for veterans and that is what Lifeworks is able to provide. We’re incredibly proud to deliver in Exeter for the first time and we cannot thank the Morrisons Foundation enough for their support.”
